Is Chivalry Dead?
What is Chivalry? The definition appears to be changing nowadays. Opening the vehicle door for a girl, standing up when she gets up to leave, coming to the damsel’s rescue when she is more than able to very well help herself, seems to be an old school way of describing chivalry. Chivalry is certainly not dead in my opinion, but I’d say that it exists in a different and modern form.
In previous days, chivalry was attributed to knights of the court. The women of those days also appeared to bask in all the attention and liked the feeling of dependency on a person who spoiled them and made them feel special with his chivalrous attitude. Certain zodiacs such as Aries men were seen to be more chivalrous than others.
Talking about today’s women, however,, they may also want their men to be gallant and sweep them off their feet. At the same time, the modern lady is also independent and wants to be treated as a powerful entity and not a weak minded fool. Some women expect the man to walk ahead of them and shield them from the rain or help them put on their coat (which they are superbly capable of doing by themselves), while the more modern girl claims that she doesn’t need this kind of help.
Times have changed and the modern woman must also understand that she cannot have it both ways. She cannot claim to be modern, independent and robust and yet expect old fashioned chivalry from her man. Therefore , today we see that the idea of chivalry has changed. Today, chivalry implies that the men are kind and courteous to women.
Nevertheless we also find that common pleasantness has also become rare in many places where folks don’t have the time or patience to be polite or gallant any more. Peoples approach has additionally become more self-centered. Times have moved on to such an extent that men are asking themselves the question if it is they alone who should be chivalrous. With assertions of equality being made by women, they’re expecting that the woman can also take an initiative and do something noble for her man. Chivalry is not dead however it seems to have taken a new and different form.
